The beginning of the end

So it has been a long semester. I wouldn't say I am pleased with my
work this semester. I really only produced one thing that I am proud of. I do hope that my final semester here will bring better art. I finalized my schedule today and its different than this year, less free time during the week, but I think the classes will be much better than this past semester. One of them will be a storyboarding class and I am more than thrilled for that o
ne. Another one is Narrative Illustration, which I have been trying to take since my freshmen year. Unfortunately I had to drop Wine Appreciation, but I suppose my parents will be pleased about that.

This is a birthday card I made
for my roommate today!
Happy 22nd roomie!

This assignment is
from a few months ago, its a
coloring book about Kiba!

Kiba Saves Furby!

I just finished my last piece for the semester, and I am actually pretty pleased with it at the moment. There are a few things that I think need work but I am going to give it a day to decide what to change. For now I am happy. This is the first time I have drawn my new kitty Furby. I rescued her a snow storm two Christmas' ago- tried to find her a home or find out if she had one but to no avail, eventually we convinced my parents to let us keep her. Unfortunately, my cat Pyewacket died about 6 months after we got Furby and because of that loss I really had no interest in bonding with Furby, so this past Thanksgiving was the first time I spent any real time with her since I rescued her. I am sure she will soon become as popular as Kiba is in my work. :)

Revisions to 'Chucks'

This is going to be on my promotional postcards that I will be sending out soon! The image unfortunately looks much better on the computer than printed out.

Revisions to 'Kiba saves Christmas'

I have been working and working and working on this to attempt to get a finished piece I actually like. It has been hard, but no where near as hard as uploading it has been. My apartment complex advertised itself as luxury campus living, but instead I got sub par living with internet that is slower than dial-up. This is probably the 8th time I've written this paragraph- it that helps you understand how frustrating this is. On the bright side, I am no longer stressed about the painting... oy...

also: the first one is a screenshot.. some how the file was corrupted during my million attempts to upload it so all i have is this- its also not right because the mouse is in he right hand corner and the lighting is off on santa... OY

October-November 2011

Just a quick update- lots more to photograph and upload, I just haven't gotten around to it yet!
First is a digital painting and some concept work for my Concepts Class. We all picked Greek Gods to illustrate, I picked Athena. Below those are some life drawings I did recently in my Drawing Class with Jerome Witkin. Also, I am going to re-upload my video portfolio because it doesnt seem to be working... hmmm.

October 2011

At the suggestion of my favorite fellow SU illustration major (Anna Rettberg), I bought a moleskin sketchbook. It has been great so far, its easy to carry because its so small. I have been drawing more because I can bring it everywhere with me! Here are a few pages from it so far. Nothing too great but its certainly better than my other sketchbook!

Last week I was lucky enough to get to work in a script writing workshop with Rob Edwards (scriptwriter for Princess and the Frog and Treasure Planet). It was amazing, I learned so much about what it takes to create a successful story for film. There were only about 8 of us in the group so we all got some one on one time with him. Below is some sketches from a story I started thinking of while in the workshop. Of course its about dogs, and of course the main character is Kiba the Shiba.

For my Concepts class I had to design Athena (the greek goddess). I have been having some trouble with it, I am not really in love with any of my ideas so far but hopefully by next Monday I will come up with something good.

This is the finished painting I did for the NYC Bus Trip Poster. The Poster itself looks good, but different than I had anticipated. I thought they would take advantage of the white space I purposefully left them, but they didnt. Hmm.

This is the cover of the two-page comic I did a few weeks ago.

This is supposed to be my promotional piece for my postcards, but I sort of hate it. I don't think I'll be getting any jobs with this one! Haha.

September 2011

So far senior has been good. The work load seems pretty heavy this semester with a lot of our assignments being due at the same time. I have three more painting to finish this weekend! Below is the sketch for our Haiku assignment- someone else wrote the haiku and my classmates and I have to illustrate them. The lucky ones get their art put up in downtown syracuse. I have also uploaded my sequential art assignment. This one was about death and the after life. Everyone interpretation were really interesting and extremely different, some were pretty upbeat and others not so much, mine is pretty positive I think, haha. Finally there is out "animals doing human activities" assignment- this has by far been my favorite, I have included the sketch and ALMOST finished product. I have to work on the lighting a bit and make it a bit brighter here and there but its almost there.

The Letter F

F is for Fast Flying Fox

(Flying Fox is a REAL animal, here's a picture of one- http://newswatch-media.nationalgeographic.com/files/2008/10/flying-fox-lede.jpg) This one was really hard for me. He is not my favorite. I have never drawn a bat before so this was like take 5. To make matters worse I had actually finished it once and then right before putting in the background (my last and easiest step) Photoshop quit and I lost everything. I am glad I re-did just a day later though. Unfortunately I am going back to school in 3 days so my goal to finish the alphabet before that was not met. I did start taking a medicine that is supposed to fight my terrible fatigue that I have been experiencing lately so I am hoping that will give me more motivation to work on this. I am NOT giving up!! I am just taking it a bit slowly. However, whenever I go back to school I am always really inspired for like the first month so I am also banking on that. (excuses excuses- I know). This summer really was more successful than most in terms of the amount of art I've done so I haven't completely disappointed myself.

Anyways- Here is F. I think he is cute- not my best, but I like his goofy smile. :)

The Letter E

E is for Elegant Emu

So I hit a bit of a rough patch. I haven't been feeling too inspired as of late. I assume part of it has to be because of an absolutely terrible hostessing job I had up until a few days ago. I should have quit but instead I just left earlier than I told them I would. I would work 8 hour shifts with no break. (which means I stood non-stop for that time, no food, no bathroom- I did however get water, wasn't that nice of them!)
I really disliked the way I was treated by the management, I was raised to respect your elders and your superiors. I did my job to the best of my ability and followed all the rules. (Including not looking at my precious cell phone while I was working, and wear extremely conservative all black clothing in 100 degree weather) However, it was not worth the $8.00 an hour I was making to be treated like an insolent child.

It is safe to say that now that I am jobless and all I have is time again that I will finally be doing what I should have been doing all summer long- draw, paint, exercise, spend time with my family and of course take Kiba out for more walks! I do fortunately have about 3 weeks before I go back to Syracuse where I will undoubtedly be sucked into a routine of socializing, eating, drinking, tomfoolery and a bedtime of 3am again!
(I am of course not complaining- but I do hope I finish this project before than! :) )

Summer Project: Animal Alphabet

A is for Acrobatic Antelope

AnimalAdjectiveAlphabet (AAA) Haha- anyways, here is the first 'A is for Acrobatic Antelope!'
